This is our seventh year working with this amazing implementing partner! The project is providing communities, local schools and individual families in rural Cambodia with access to safe and clean water. Each year the project will provide 30 pump wells, 400 clay water filters, and 10 schools with latrines and wash points. The recipients also receive vital hygiene and sanitation education. This project is providing around 38,000 individuals with access to safe, clean water at an average cost of $8 per person!
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT IT
This project is effective in its on-going sustainability through the provision of education; training families and villagers to oversee and maintain wells, and charging a small fee for all products provided to ensure a longer life span and community ownership. This means our donations go further! Our partners have just completed a similar project in another part of Cambodia helping 40,000 people gain access to clean water, with a 67% reduction in illness, 80% increase in school attendance and an increase in family productivity – which especially benefits women and children in the communities.
$50,000 for year one of a three year project. Project starts in July 2018.
Entrust is not the sole donor for this project – our donations are matched dollar-for-dollar by other investors. The quantities provided above are for the entire project – our contribution will be a portion of these numbers, still with the average cost of $8 per person.
In rural Cambodia, families have little or no access to clean drinking water. Where water is available it is generally unsafe, causes sickness and requires time and travel to access. This means less time for other life needs and important opportunities such as education. Lack of clean water and basic sanitation is responsible for up to 80% of all illnesses currently experienced in the developing world. For many families, this will be the first time they will have access to safe, clean water through the provision of sealed concrete wells, pump wells and filters.
